Incident Location: Anbar province, Iraq

Branch of Military:   Marines
Rank: Lance Cpl.

Dustin L. Sides joined the Marines a year ago following an older brother and a cousin. "He was proud to be there, proud to be a Marine _ and we are proud of him," said Nancy Sides, his stepmother. Sides, 22, of Yakima, Wash., was killed May 31 in an ambush near Fallujah, Iraq. He was based at Camp Pendleton. He graduated from a Yakima high school in 2001. His father, John Sides, said he spoke with his son by phone just two hours before his death. Dustin told his father he had just completed a mission and was on his way back to base. Sides is also survived by his mother. He had intended to marry a girlfriend in California when his duty in Iraq ended, relatives said.

To my MOS School roommate,
I'll never forget all the times we had together in the coldest place on earth. lol. I still talk about you to this day and its been 7 years since you graced my presence. I have a drink with you once a year on the same day...used to get plastered but can only have one now....turns out the Lord wanted me to be a Pastor. To your parents; my deepest sympathy to you. If there is ever anything I can do feel free to get in touch. I will always miss you buddy.

You know...alot of time has passed and never will i forget you and what you have done to get us one step closer to getting this over with. I will never forget the crazy times we shared back home. May you rest in peace.

A salute to you my friend. Thank you for what you did for this country, my family and for me. You gave the ultimate sacrafice and for this I am forever greatful. I miss you and your smile, your humor to life's craziness and just the way you dealt with things that came your way. You will never be forgotten as you will always be in my heart. As the years pass by I will share you with my children as a friend whom gave it all as you are my hero...may you rest in peace. Until we meet again...
