CPL Matthew Tyrell Bedke, 20, of St. Anthony, beloved husband, son and brother, died Jan. 23, 2003, at his parent’s home in St. Anthony. Matthew was born March 31, 1982, in Rexburg. He was raised in St. Anthony, Oakley and Burley. He attended grade schools in the Cassia County School District and junior high and high school in the Sugar-Salem School District, where his extra-curricular hours were spent wrestling. He graduated from Central High School in May 2000.

He married Kathren M. Wheeler on Dec. 12, 2000. After the birth of their son, Gawain, they moved to Killeen, Texas, for his military service in 2001. He recently returned home from Fort Hood, Texas, where he had served in the U.S. Army as an early warning systems specialist for Headquarters Battery, 1- 44 Air Defense Artillery. During his military service, he received the Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal and the Army Service Ribbon.

He loved his family, especially his son Gawain, wrestling and playing his guitar. He is survived by his wife and son; his parents, Kent and Leslie Bedke of St. Anthony; brothers, O’Shane Bedke of Santa Fe, N.M., and Carson Bedke of St. Anthony; sisters, Rachel (Andrew) Johnson of Boise and Roxanna (Josh) Martino of Mountain Home; grandparents, Ray and Carol Oakey of Rexburg and Ruby C. Bedke of South Jordan, Utah.
