SGT Jonathan Shiver was born on March 4th, 1985 in Tucson, Arizona and graduated from Buena High School in 2003. He attended Wyoming Technical College for two years obtaining an Associate’s Degree in automotive repair. In June 2007, Sergeant Shiver joined the United States Army where he graduated from Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland as a 91D, Power Generator Equipment Repairer.

In November 2007, he was assigned to his first duty station, the 3d Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) out of Fort Knox, KY. Shortly after he deployed with the unit in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Sergeant Shiver had many jobs while deployed from working as a mechanic, to orderly room clerk, to driver for Command Sergeant Major Willie C. Tennant and finally, selected to drive for Brigadier General Michael J. Lally. Again, without hesitation, Jonathan performed his duties as the high speed Specialist that he was. Throughout the deployment, he was always ready for any tasks that his supervisor asked of him, and still found time to study for the promotion board. While deployed, Sergeant Shiver received orders to move to Germany. He was very excited and looked forward to the new experience. When the deployment ended, Jonathan was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for his exceptional service. His awards and decorations include the National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, Army Service Ribbon and the Overseas Service Ribbon.

Shortly after the deployment, Sergeant Shiver received word that he made the cutoff for promotion. He was ecstatic and looking forward to becoming a Noncommissioned Officer and leading soldiers. In September 2009, a very proud Sergeant Shiver pinned on his Sergeant stripes. Soon after, he returned to his duties in the motor pool and assisted with the maintenance of vehicles. In November 2009, he married his best friend, Jasmine Whitten. He adored Jasmine and knew he had found his soul mate. When Jonathan talked about his love for her, he always smiled from ear to ear. On January 16th, 2010 Sergeant Shiver’s short life came to an end.
