PV2 Jacob McArthur Sweat, 28, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, November 16, 2008 at his home in Orange Park, Florida. He was fondly known as “Cup” by his family. Jacob was born July 24, 1980 in St. Augustine, Florida. From a young age, he had a love for the outdoors and enjoyed camping with his family and Boy Scout Troop 434. Attending the National Jamboree in Philmont, NM was a highlight of his scouting years. Some of his favorite childhood activities were baseball, soccer, surfing, and tennis. He played trumpet in the marching band at Orange Park High School where he graduated in 1998. After graduation, he entered the military service with the Florida Air National Guard where he served as a Bioenvironmental Engineer and was awarded the Air Force Training Ribbon. In 2004, he enlisted in the United States Army where he trained and served as a Combat Medic in Ft. Lewis, Washington. While stationed at Ft. Lewis, he met and married, Lisa Anne McGrath on October 16, 2006. Shortly after their marriage, he was deployed to Iraq where he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Iraq Campaign Medal with Bronze Service Star, and Overseas Service Bar. After returning home from Iraq, Jacob and Lisa enjoyed snowboarding, hiking, and camping in the Pacific Northwest. Upon completion of military service, Jacob returned home to Florida.
